The BFG Review

Sophie is an orphan girl who lives in London, who has insomnia. This is not good as she is a wake in the Witching Hour; the Witching Hour is when all the monsters are active and prey on the children who are not asleep. Hearing a strange noise, Sophie got out of bed, walked to the curtain and saw a giant. It looked back at her, starting to walk towards her, Sophie ran back into bed, but the giant reached in through the window and snatched her up and took her to his home in Giant Country. Sophie gets all scared, but the giant says he is a Big Friendly Giant and had to take her otherwise she would go talking to the press and people like that. When the Giant had fallen asleep, Sophie dreamt that she escaped and bumped into one of the people-eating giants, she woke up and saw that the BFG was friendly after all. The BFG's job is to catch dreams and blow them into people's head with his special trumpet. Afterwards the meat-eating giants trashed the BFG's home, looking for Sophie, and began to bully the meat-eating giants.

Sophie came up with a plan to get back at the meat-eating giants, the BFG would have to make a nightmare up about the meat-eating giants and Sophie, with the BFG saving the children. The dream would have to be blown into the head of the Queen of England. The dream was blown and the plan with the queen was made. Using the Navy, RAF and Army forces they would capture the meat-eating giants and trap them on an island with nothing but Snozzcumber seeds to eat, in doing so saving the children from the giants.

This movie is a must see for young children. I didn't like it myself but my 10 year brother loved it. Based on the book by Roald Dahl, the films was beautiful looking and was funny in some places. The BFG was voiced by Mark Rylance, playing Rudolf Abel in the film "Bridge of Spies", his voice was near perfect for this 24 ft. tall character. Sophie was played by Ruby Barnhill - this was her first film, only by in 6 episodes of CBBC's "4 O'Clock Club" as Isobel, this being her first role in a film was excellent to see a young future star. Penelope Wilton played the Queen Elizabeth II, though small it was mighty, she played Shaun's Mother Barbara in one of three of the Cornetto Trilogy, "Shaun of the Dead". Even though the film looked beautiful and was directed by Stephen Spielberg, I though the film scored a 6.5/10.

Overall: Best Youngster's Film of the Year.
Final thought: "Whizzpopper Farts"
